About Us

Purpose of the Davis Islands Garden Club

We exist as a nonprofit organization to promote the beautification of Davis Islands; to encourage the growing of flowers, plants and shrubbery in private and public places; to cooperate in protecting birds and wildlife; to aid in protecting and conserving natural resources; to further members’ education and the public’s education in gardening, horticulture and nature studies; and to uphold and promote the objects of the Florida Federation of Gardens Clubs and the National Garden Clubs, Inc. (Paraphrased from the club’s bylaws)

Community Development and Service

  • Encourage member participation in the Davis Islands Civic Association and the Davis Islands Chamber of Commerce
  • Encourage members to be active in their neighborhood’s watch program
  • Contribute floral arrangements, food and gifts to Tampa’s Ronald McDonald House, to Hudson Manor Nursing Home on Davis Islands and other worthy projects

Conservation

  • Emphasize ecology’s importance to our junior gardeners
  • Grow plants on our grounds to attract and preserve butterflies as in this photo
  •  Promote awareness of the need to protect birds, butterflies, and endangered tree and wildlife species
  •  Promote awareness of energy and water conservation in gardening
  •  Encourage member training to become:
    • Floral show judges in Florida Federation of Garden Clubs
    • Gardening and environmental consultants
    • Landscape critics (in a good way, of course)
    • Plan and conduct classes in floral design to prepare for flower shows
