We are on Davis Islands in Tampa, Florida – right on the water on the west bank of the Seddon Channel, the main outflow of the Hillsborough River into Tampa Bay.
From the club’s patio and gazebo, we watch boats on the channel, from college rowing teams practicing in their shells to small runabouts and sailboats – and even huge cruise ships going to and from the Caribbean from the Port of Tampa.
To get here from downtown, you cross two bridges, one over the Hillsborough River and another where the Hillsborough empties into Tampa Bay. From the center of downtown, it takes about five minutes to get to our clubhouse – depending on traffic lights and whether one of the Hillsborough River drawbridges are open for a passing sailboat’s mast.
Traveling west from downtown Tampa on Kennedy Boulevard, turn left on Hyde Park Avenue at the turrets of the University of Tampa. Hyde Park Avenue becomes the Davis Islands Bridge. Keep to the right on the bridge. Just before the split of Davis Boulevard into East Davis and West Davis (at Apex Park), turn left on Bering Street, then left again on Columbia. We are on the right in the first block.
